Arctic Monkeys are ramping things up a bit. They recently posted a video for new song “Brick By Brick,” and now they’ve announced a North American tour.

The last time Arctic Monkeys played in Salt Lake I was so bored with their show that I left early. The real shame is that the other two times I saw them they were amazing. Here’s to a return to form when they tour the US this spring. For ticket information, visit arcticmonkeys.com.

Whatever Happened To Arctic Monkeys?

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Remember when Arctic Monkeys were the most original thing in the world? Now they’re just another rock band. Granted, this is probably their best song not on their debut album, but it could have been written/recorded by any number of English bands. The last time I saw them live I walked out after a handful of songs because they were so bored on stage that it translated to a boring show.

Over Hyped? Two Door Cinema Club

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist HistoryFor several weeks, all I’ve heard from a ton of industry peeps is “Two Door Cinema Club this.” and “Two Door Cinema Club that.” I finally took the liberty to download the album and give it a listen.

I was kind of disappointed, to tell the truth.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good album, but it doesn’t match the hype. (Maybe it just doesn’t compare well to the other amazing albums I’ve downloaded in the last couple days.) The sound of Tourist History is similar to the first album from Arctic Monkeys, only with out the attitude. Add in some of the surf guitar that you hear throughout Vampire Weekend’s catalog with a pinch of Phoenix for dance-ability, and you have Two Door Cinema Club. After all the “you gotta hear this band” statements that I’ve been inundated with of late, I was expecting something Earth shattering. Or at the very least, something original. Instead I was introduced to something rather derivative and seemingly uninspired.

Perhaps I’ll change my mind. Maybe this is one of those records that has to grow on me. Maybe I’ll have to write a retraction next week when I decide that TDCC is the best thing since sliced bread.

I doubt it though.

You be the judge. Check out the band’s first single, “I Can Talk,” which is getting some airplay at Alternative radio.

Let me know what you think of Two Door Cinema Club.

New Music Spotlight #111: Arctic Monkeys

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

This band blew up in 2006 with the release of their album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, which featured the hit single “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor.” Fast forward three years and they’re about to release their third album, Humbug. Today’s NMS, “Crying Lightning,” is the lead single and is much more like the band’s debut than their unfortunate sophomore release. Yes, that’s a good thing.

The response to this song was fairly positive with several texters showing the band a lot of love, and one person in particular wondering what they were “singing…yelling?” Overall, though, it seems you like the song.

If you missed “Crying Lightning,” head to the band’s MySpace page to give it a listen. You can also find Arctic Monkeys on Facebook, Twitter and their official website.

What do you think of the song?
